Project Description
Plant Futures is seeking a highly skilled and fast-moving Video Editor to bring our footage to life through polished, dynamic, and mission-aligned video content. This role is essential to amplifying the impact of students and young professionals transforming food systems, and ensuring our growing library of visual media is well-organized, accessible, and strategically used.
As a key member of the marketing team, you’ll work closely with our Community Content Creator and Communications Lead to turn raw footage into powerful digital narratives. From event coverage and speaker interviews to campaign videos and conference recaps, you’ll help shape how Plant Futures shows up visually across platforms.
This is an ideal role for a professional editor with strong technical chops, creative storytelling instincts, and a passion for cultural change, food systems, and youth-led movements.
Responsibilities
- Edit high-quality videos from raw footage captured by team members, student chapters, and collaborators (short-form, mid-length, and reels-style)
- Produce visual stories from conferences, campus events, speaker visits, and travel footage that highlight Plant Futures’ global presence
- Collaborate with the Community Content Creator to polish in-the-field clips, optimise for different platforms, and maintain consistency across the brand
- Organise, tag, and archive video assets into a centralised digital library for long-term use and institutional memory
- Optimise video content for web, mobile, and social platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn
- Support video strategy and planning (e.g., ideas for series, post-production best practices, creative assets) while staying focused on daily editing needs
- Maintain quality control on visual aesthetics, audio levels, captions, and graphics
Deliverables and measures of success
Video Production & Editing:
- Deliver an average of 2–4 polished videos per week (short-form reels, social clips, or mid-length content), depending on availability of new footage.
- Edit videos from raw event and chapter footage and reflect a high standard of storytelling, pacing, and formatting across platforms.
- When no new footage is available, editor should:
- Repurpose archived content, such as from the Plant Futures Symposium or past events, using AI or traditional editing tools.
- Create engaging content from quotes, photos, and text overlays that align with ongoing campaigns and brand messaging.
Platform Impact
- Videos should demonstrate strong engagement across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn), measured by views, shares, and watch time.
- The editor is encouraged to proactively experiment with format and timing to optimise reach and resonance.
Role Requirements
- You’re excited to turn raw student-led content into beautiful, cohesive stories that inspire action
- You thrive in a collaborative remote environment and enjoy working behind the scenes
- You’re both fast and meticulous: you care about the craft, but you get things done
- You love the idea of your editing work making real-world impact on campuses and beyond
- Professional-level experience editing video content for brands, media, nonprofits, or movements (portfolio required)
- Strong command of editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in AI tools (e.g., for editing, scripting, voiceovers, content generation) to streamline workflows and enhance creativity.
- Proven ability to work quickly, efficiently, and independently on tight deadlines
- A knack for storytelling, pacing, and pulling emotional resonance from interviews and footage
- Experience creating content for diverse platforms and audiences
- Strong organizational skills and familiarity with media management and digital asset libraries
- Interest in or familiarity with food systems, youth organizing, climate movements, or culture change a plus
- For non-native English speakers: Strong proficiency in English is essential, as most content will be created in English. However, the ability to collaborate with our Mexico-based team and contribute to occasional Spanish-language projects is highly valued.
- Bonus: You’re already active in the Plant Futures network or aligned student movements
