SEO Account Director

This is an SEO Account Director role for someone who combines commercial account leadership, deep SEO expertise, and genuine curiosity about where organic search is going next.

You will inherit a portfolio of high-value clients that has been founder-led to date, with founder support through the transition. You will lead strategy, client relationships, technical direction, and commercial growth, while helping shape the tools, systems, and AI-led workflows Oxford Comma is building for the future. We have already built our own client portal, backend operations platform with per-account P&L and resourcing, AI visibility tool, SEO Chrome extension, and more is yet to come.

The role.

You will own high-value accounts across ecommerce, finance, health, and B2B, leading strategy, owning the commercial outcome, and staying close enough to the detail that quality never slips.

That means defining and evolving SEO strategies across technical, onsite, content, authority, and Digital PR; leading QBRs, full-year reviews, and roadmap planning; running performance analysis through GA4, GSC, and our own client portal; and acting as the senior point of contact for stakeholders from Marketing Manager through to founder.

It also means being hands-on when it matters. You will personally lead the most complex or commercially sensitive work, flagship strategy documents, deep technical audits, migration plans, executive-facing analysis, and step into delivery directly when accounts need senior input or a deliverable needs to land at a higher standard before it reaches the client.

You will own account budgets, forecasting, profitability, and growth, supported by real-time per-account P&L, resourcing, and pipeline visibility through our ops platform. You will lead upsell and cross-sell, support new business, and help us shape how we package and price our services.

You will oversee a tight, senior delivery team providing direction, QA, and support and continuously look for ways to improve how the work moves through the agency.

Throughout, AI and Generative Engine Optimisation will be embedded into how you approach strategy, workflows, analysis, and delivery.

What we’re looking for.

We are looking for a builder, not just an operator – someone who enjoys creating value, whether that means solving a complex technical SEO problem, improving how the team delivers work, testing a new AI process, or spotting a product opportunity for Oxford Comma.

You will bring:

• Deep technical SEO expertise: crawlability, indexing, rendering, site architecture, structured data, Core Web Vitals, migrations, eCommerce SEO, and developer-facing recommendations.
• Strong strategic judgement, with the ability to prioritise the work most likely to move performance and commercial outcomes.
• Proven experience leading and growing client accounts, ideally agency-side, though we are open to strong in-house candidates.
• Strong commercial acumen: budgets, forecasting, profitability, scope, and account growth.
• Confidence with senior client and technical stakeholders, and the ability to move fluidly between strategy and execution.
• Experience mentoring and supporting team members.
• Hands-on curiosity with AI, GEO, and the future of organic search, ideally with experience experimenting with AI models, agents, automations, Chrome extensions, or internal tools.

This is not a fixed, narrow agency role. Oxford Comma is growing quickly, investing in its own tooling, and actively exploring how SEO, AI visibility, automation, and productised delivery fit together. Over the next 12 months you may help shape internal tools, improve delivery systems, test new workflows, or contribute to product ideas. This will suit someone who wants ownership, variety, and the chance to build.

• Salary: £65,000–£70,000
